Cancer Center receives touching gift for patients

One group, focused on helping women dealing with cancer treatment, donated approximately 20 fleece blankets to give to cancer patients at the Taylor Le Norman/ McCasland Cancer Center at Duncan Regional Hospital. “It started one day when I asked Elaine Fullerton, who wanted to do something for the patients here, if she could donate lap blankets for the chemo patients who are always cold during chemo treatments,” said Barbara Derrico, RN, Nurse Manager for the cancer center. “The day of the opening Elaine Fullerton brought the blankets to the center.”

“All cancer patients need a little pampering,” said Fullerton. “It is our joy to do it.” Fullerton is head of the “Look Good Feel Better” cancer support group in Duncan.
“This is a group of cosmetologist that assist cancer patients with hair and makeup,” Derrico said.

“All of my staff of the Look Good…Feel Better group have had some type of cancer,” Fullerton stated. “We want to be able to help those who are going through it now.” Cheryl Fales, Re-imbursement Specialist at the cancer center, had the center’s logo embroidered on a few.  She and her friend Patricia Manning are working to embroider the rest of the blankets.
