Duncan’s Cancer Center Grand Opening Set Mood for New Beginnings
Cancer treatment is closer to home as the Taylor Le Norman McCasland Cancer Center has officially opened its doors. In celebration of the cancer center’s new beginning and the new beginnings of patients who visit it, Duncan Regional Hospital held a grand opening ceremony Tuesday, October 21st.
Scott Street, President and CEO of Duncan Regional Hospital opened the ceremony with an uplifting quote "Against the Wind" authored by Jim Davidson and introduced the Board of Directors for the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma and the many dedicated people involved. Lane Hooton, COO, over the three cancer centers introduced the staff of the Duncan location and finishing the ceremony with uplifting style the Duncan High School Reflections choir entertained the crowd of 300 to 350 singing "You Raise me Up". Concluding the ceremony the crowd freely toured the center, taking in the attractive architecture while enjoying refreshments and the hopeful and healing music played by Oklahoma Symphony Harpist, Kendall Wood.
"We have had an overwhelming response to the cancer center," said Scott Street, President and CEO of Duncan Regional Hospital. "To know that we are able to bring a much needed service to our community and work together with caring people to make it happen is a rewarding experience."
The cancer center features advanced technology to treat cancer with greater accuracy and with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. Every patient receives an individualized treatment plan, coordinated by an entire team of medical and radiation oncologists, certified technicians and therapists. Should a patient receive initial care outside the area, they can take comfort in knowing that they have the option of receiving their oncologist’s prescribed treatment with the personal care and support they need - without having to travel far from home.
"It was not easy for three hospitals with three very different CEOs and Management staffs to come together to make this joint venture a reality," Street said. "We all worked very hard and I am proud of each and every one who had a part in this tremendous effort. "
The Taylor Le Norman McCasland Cancer Center, located on Duncan Regional Hospital’s campus, is part of the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma. Together, Duncan Regional in Duncan, Jackson County Memorial in Altus, and Comanche County Memorial in Lawton, combined their resources and expertise to create a new tradition in health care – the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma. With new facilities and expanded cancer treatment centers, patients can receive the care they need close to home.
